Nitti Mostro is an adventurous addition to Pieter van Rosmalen’s Nitti series of “Italo-American Grotesques”. Based on the heaviest weights of Nitti Grotesk, this 18-style companion was designed for maximum impact in display typography. Descenders and ascenders were dramatically shortened to allow for compact leading, while letterforms were modified from the typical “Nitti-style” model in order to achieve tighter letter fit. This hefty collection consists of four sub-families: Nitti Mostro (ten styles), Nitti Mostro Comic (two styles), Nitti Mostro Disco (three styles), and Nitti Mostro Stencil (three styles). Dirk Uhlenbrock contributed pictograms of nine whimsical creatures to round out the design’s monster theme. What makes Nitti Mostro a standout in the super bold display category is its capacity for chromatic text styling—fonts within each sub-family can be layered for easy creation of multicolored and shadowed effects.
